6 local students nominated for military academies

Congressman Mike Turner, R-Dayton, today announced that six local students have been nominated for the military academies.

The local nominees are

*Abigail Arestides, Beavercreek, Air Force Academy;

*Caleb Boon, Beavercreek, Air Force Academy;

*Kyle Roshong, Dayton, Air Force Academy;

*Holden Rushing, Kettering, Naval Academy;

*Kasen Stephensen, Bellbrook, Naval Academy;

*Marie Docken, Kettering, U.S. Military Academy.

“Every year, bright young patriots volunteer to serve their country,” Turner said in a statement. “I am proud to recognize these six students who will be attending service academies next year and representing Ohio with pride.”

Congressman Turner gives congressional medal to local students

U.S. Rep. Mike Turner presented local students with a congressional medal for their work in the community.

The Congressional Award Foundation is a public-private partnership created by Congress to promote and recognize service, initiative and achievement in America’s youth.

Participants, ages 14 to 23, earn the award for work in voluntary public service, personal development, physical fitness and expedition/exploration.

“These students are the future of our community. I am proud to present each of the students with this distinguished award for their work and dedication to our community. I wish them all the best in their future endeavors,” Turner said in a statement.

Democrats slam Turner for endorsement of lawmaker who spoke to white supremacist group

U.S. Rep. Mike Turner drew criticism from local Democrats for endorsing Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise for a House leadership position Tuesday.

In 2002, Scalise spoke to the European American Unity and Rights Organization formed by former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke.
